Cheadle Hulme School is a coeducational independent day school in Cheadle Hulme, Stockport, England, for pupils aged 4 to 18 years old, and is a member of the Headmasters' and Headmistresses' Conference.〔(The Headmasters' & Headmistresses' Conference – Cheadle Hulme School )〕 Founded in 1855 as The Manchester Warehousemen and Clerks' Orphan Schools, its original intake consisted solely of "orphans" (children who had lost their fathers), who were sent to an existing school in Shaw Hall, Flixton. The school moved into its own premises in Park Place, Ardwick in 1861, and to its current location in 1869. The school's current status as an independent school dates back to 1976 when the Labour government abolished the Direct Grant System. Today the school covers 83 acres,〔 has around 1,400 pupils, and in addition to its academic programme offers a wide variety of extra-curricular activities. The most recent inspection report rated pupils’ achievement throughout the school, the range of extra curricular activities, pupils' personal development and leadership and management as "outstanding", and confirmed that "the school meets all the requirements of the Independent School Standards Regulations 2010".〔Independent Schools Inspectorate.
